For all inquiries for facility rentals and field permits, please follow these steps so we can best assist your inquiry:
Step 1:
- Complete the field and facility application/inquiry form found here.
- Submit completed form via e-mail (recreation@actonma.gov), by dropping it off at our office or in our 24/7 drop box located in the front entranceway of the Recreation Dept. Main Office located at 50 Audubon Drive in S. Acton, or by mailing it to Recreation Dept., 472 Main Street, Acton, MA 01720.
- You may also complete your inquiry via our online portal: actonrec.com
Step 2:
- All applications are serviced on a first-come basis. A permit is not secured until full payment has been received.
- Once your application has been received, you should hear back from our office via email within five business days from the date of receipt. Please check your spam filter if you haven't heard back especially if you have a verizon, yahoo, aol, or hotmail account. With the high volume of applications received daily, please note that this form must be completed FIRST to help us serve you better by allowing time for the facilities scheduler to review your request so we can give you accurate information.
Step 3:
- There is no fee to complete the application, once you have heard back about your inquiry, the process of payment and permit issuance is given.

Group Swim Passes
Please complete a Field and Facilities Request Form is you wish to purchase Group Swim Passes.
If you are purchasing group swim passes, they must be paid for three business days in advance - otherwise daily rate per person based on resident/non-resident cost will be charged.
Approved/paid group passes are then picked up at the snack bar office at check-in.
Payment for group passes (by check payable to Town of Acton) can be dropped off at our 24/7 drop-box located in the front of the Recreation Department main office located at 50 Audubon Drive in S. Acton. Payment via cash or credit card (3% convenience fee is added to credit card transactions) may be made in person during the hours of 9-3, Mon-Thursday, at the Recreation Department's main office.
Payment for passes at the beach will be the regular daily rate if not paid in advance at the Recreation office.
FAQ's
Will you accept an application for use for the future year?
We will accept applications for up to a year in advance. However, dates are not guaranteed until it has been confirmed and paid for in full. Permit rates are not guaranteed at the time of advance application for use and are subject to change if the permit fee rate schedule has changed for the new upcoming calendar year.
How do you find out about availability and pricing for picnic or field rentals?
Please complete your inquiry via the application form first. Please note that rates and availability cannot be quoted or given out until we have received your application. Please view the fee schedule (link above) as a guide to pricing and complete the application (link above).
What if my date is not available?
Please be sure to add an alternative date on your application in case your preferred date is not available.
Can I also get a rain date?
We do not offer rain dates. If you wish to have a rain date, you need to secure and pay for an additional permit for an alternative date.
Can I bring my grill or do you have a grill?
The picnic pavilion has a large shared (for all picnic pavilion rentals) picnic grill (charcoal). Only picnic rentals are permitted to bring their grill. No outside grills are permitted if you are not authorized via permit.
What hours can you rent?
Permits are based on a 4-hour or full-day use. Time includes setup and breakdown. NARA Park hours are from dawn to dusk. Permits for picnic areas can be extended beyond dusk. Other parks are open from dawn to dusk.
Are the restrooms/changing rooms open?
Restrooms are open seasonally at the bathhouse pavilion during the beach season - beach hours. The Sports Complex restrooms at the north end of the Park are open late spring through early fall. Portable toilets are available for all users of the Park throughout the year at the upper and lower park areas to accommodate when restrooms are closed.
Do you have handicapped parking?
There is handicapped parking at both the lower and upper park areas. If you are renting at the picnic pavilion and you have a guest who needs assistance, please let the Park Ranger know so we can best assist you and your guest(s).
Can we swim when there is no lifeguard on duty?
We do not ever recommend swimming without a lifeguard on duty. Please note that the water at NARA is not tested outside of the seasonal beach season. Any swimming is at your own risk.
