Responsibilities
The Recreation Commission is an advisory committee of the Select Board to oversee long range planning for recreational facilities and site acquisition, as well as development of new, and maintenance of existing, recreational facilities. The Commission maintains close liaison as needed with the Community Preservation Committee and other boards and resident groups, when needed.
Additional Duties:
1. Familiarize itself with the exiting facilities, their current use and condition.
2. Keep abreast of the possibilities for acquisition of land or facilities for recreational use.
3. Bring to the attention of the Recreation Department, and the Town Manager and Select Board, as needed:
- Any site, facility or portion of same proposed for municipal acquisition that it considers appropriate for active recreation use,
- Any development or maintenance problems concerning existing facilities.
4. Attend as needed any related Town board or commission meetings with the purpose of understanding and/or representing Recreation Commission viewpoints.
5. Prepare and/or review any recreation-related Community Preservation Act proposals or Town Meeting articles as considered appropriate or requested by the Select Board.
